Back to Work :(

Well my maternity leave was finally up and I had to return to work on Monday :(
I had mixed emotions about going back. Part of me was excited to return to the working world and have adult interactions again, but a big piece of me is sad to not be with my girls every day. I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with them and I am going to miss seeing them all day. I was incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful maternity leave and get to enjoy the girls for as long as I did.

Dropping them off at school on Day 1 was pretty easy as was the day at work, however Day 2 was a lot harder. The reality of me working and the girls being at school all day really set in and I realized it is going to be a very difficult and delicate balancing act for a little while. I keep telling myself "it is only day 2" and that I need to give myself time to get adjusted to the new schedule.

Overall things are actually running pretty smoothly. Here is a day in the life of the Wallace clan:
I get up at 5am to pump and shower before the girls get up. Stan gets them when they wake up, which is usually right before 6am, feeds them and changes them into their school outfits. By the time they are eating I am usually done getting myself ready and I focus on getting all their stuff for school, bottles, spare clothes, etc. Then I pack everything into the car, get the girls in their car seats and we are off around 6:30. I drop the girls off and head to work until I pick them back up around 5:45pm. We are home by 6:15pm where Stan, the wonderful husband and father, has made us dinner. Me real food and the girls their rice cereal. Since 6pm is one of their feeding times they are ready to have cereal almost immediately after getting home. Cereal is followed by nursing with Mom, a little play time and cat nap before the 8:30pm bedtime bottle. Following their bottle we burp, change into pajamas, read a book, have a little snuggle time and it is off to bed around 9pm.

With all the stimulation of school they are sleeping pretty well which gives Mom and Dad time to get everything ready for the next day and get to bed ourselves.

Things have been a little hectic the past two days so no pictures to accompany this entry but we will get some soon!

I'm proud of both you and Stan! You said it perfectly - such a balancing act - physically and emotionally. I am so glad that you have eachother. Some of this gets easier as you get into the routine, but it's never easy to be away. You're doing awesome and there are many wonderful things that a daycare environment will offer the girls! Love to all four of you!
